The Rich Young Ruler

We all know people who think they live pretty good lives, all upright…

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. We all know people who think they live pretty good lives, all upright… doing the righteous thing. And because of that, don’t you just love pointing out to them where they’re wrong? But in Luke 18, Jesus had a response of mercy and grace when a certain rich and righteous young ruler asked what he must do to inherit eternal life. This young man thought that he’d kept all of God’s commandments, but Jesus said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.  Then come, follow me." Wow! Rather than point out what the guy was doing wrong, Jesus helped the young ruler face the truth about himself. And there’s a lesson for us. Instead of being so quick to point out where someone is wrong, use a little grace and mercy. Follow our Lord's example – it’s the way of wisdom.
