Are You a Young Leader with a Disability?

Maddy and Joni

Yesterday, I spent time with Maddy, a new intern at Joni and Friends who happens to have mild cerebral palsy. As I watched her work with our TV and Visual Media Department, I kept thinking, this young woman is going places! The way Maddy handles her disability and her surroundings tells me that she’s learned much from her limitations. After all, Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said: “We must learn to regard people less in light of what they do or omit to do, and more in the light of what they suffer.” Do you have limitations that you feel are a hindrance to becoming a leader in Christ’s kingdom? Then you will glean much from this excellent article, “Developing Young Leaders with Disabilities,” written by my friend and coworker, Dave Deuel — it’ll change your heart and mind. Read it, share it, and be inspired! And then, visit our Internships page and check out all the wonderful internship opportunities for college students and grads.
