Roe vs. Wade... Impacting Disability

Forty years ago when the US Supreme Court legalized abortion, people assumed it was only a private matter for women alone. But not so. The Roe vs. Wade decision has had a devastating impact on Americans with disabilities. To explain this, I recorded a video for the Americans United for Life Legal Conference recently held at the National Press Club in Washington DC. Take a moment and watch this video which details how dismantling the rights of an unborn child has impacted newborns with disabilities, people in comas, the uninsured, and the elderly – then please, share it with your Facebook friends!

Thankyou Joni for the great advocacy work you do for disabled people, and for your passion and caring, despite your pain issues! Like you I have a significant physical disability - Spina Bifida, and struggle with many issues. And like you I have a relationship with God ... Would not get through without His moment by moment love, guidance and protection! Sincerely, Bev

After watching the news tonight and learning that Colorado voted down Jessica's Law, I told my husband we had Roe vs Wade to thank for that. Once we begin to devalue life, it is nothing but a downward spiral. Thank you, Joni, for speaking the truth!

You inspire so many people with your faith and courage. You have opened eyes again to a deep problem that still plagues our society. Roe vs Wade date of victory should be declared a national day of mourning. Our unborn children are massacred before they take a breath and the far reaching effects of that are enormous. Thank you for sharing the truth. Thank you for NOT giving up when you were the one suffering. Thank you for allowing God to use YOU to open the eyes of His people. I applaud you!

Joni, I was sorry to hear that you have battled stage three breast cancer. I recently completed chemotherapy and radiation treatment for stage 2a breast cancer. I remember your story well and have followed your ministry since the early years. May God continue to bless you as you have blessed others. Patsy Rodgers

Thank you, Joni for bringing this to the forefront. You are as much of a fighter as my own dear Mother was with her physical disability. Truth be known, almost every person has a type of disability and they could all lead to depression--hormone imbalance and diabetes, to name 2 of them. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Joni, know one could have said it better than you. You are so right that Roe vs. Wade has had an impact on the way people think about life and death. When a well known news woman claims on her talk show that it is so sad that a woman would have to hear her child't heartbeat because she was forced to get a sonogram before an abortion, there is something seriously wrong with society. That is the problem. In one statement she acknowledges the unborn as alive yet thinks the real crisis is the mother's emotions.
