Remembering Billy Graham

Red Army Choir

Ken and I feel so honored to be attending Billy Graham’s funeral service in Charlotte – I know it’ll be a glorious celebration of how God used this humble man to open untold hearts to Christ, as well as open nations. Ken and I saw it happen when I spoke at the Billy Graham Crusade in Moscow, Russia in 1992. On the first night, I shared my testimony; the next night, the Red Army Choir arrived to sing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” in English, no less.

It was a thrilling moment, especially when Ken (who was teaching history at the time) leaned over and said, “thirty years earlier, almost to the week, the US and the USSR were in a nuclear standoff over the Cuban missile crisis. And now… look at this!” As we watched the Russian Army Choir sing this rousing hymn exalting Jesus Christ, we knew it was a historic moment. So earlier today, I dug around on Billy Graham’s website and found the video of that exact performance – and when you watch it all the way to the last “Amen,” have a tissue handy. God is on the move across the globe, even now!
