“At Family Retreat, We’re Accepted and Loved”

Families affected by disability come to Family Retreat in need of spiritual strength, encouragement, and renewal. For 5 years, Sam Hunter and her son, Brighton, have found just that and more at Family Retreat. When they first arrived at Retreat, Sam didn’t know what to expect. How would people treat her 14-year-old son who has cerebral palsy, as well as developmental and intellectual disabilities? “We love the community. As a mom, I can relax because I see Brighton being himself and having fun. Seeing him interact with the volunteer STMs (Short-Term Missionaries) is one of the best parts,” Sam shared.

Now, Brighton’s two older siblings, Sebastian and Trinity, are serving other families as STM’s because they see the positive transformation in families through Family Retreat. “It’s not a vacation; it’s respite. At Retreat, we’re accepted, and we’re not isolated,” Sam explained.

Through the generosity of an anonymous donor, Sam brought her family to Retreat without financial burden. “It would be a huge blessing to sponsor a family. Many families affected by disability need it because they are under such financial strain,” Sam shared.

Thank you for allowing God to use you to restore and bring hope to families affected by disability through Jesus Christ’s love at Family Retreat!

I would love to attend a Family Retreat as a STM. I may be able to do this next summer. This Spring/Summer I will be getting some remodeling done in my house. But, I would love to keep in touch with Joni and Friends and possibly help out next year. Thank you for all that you do at Joni and Friends.
