Fifty-One Years

I was just a kid, packing my bags for my first year of college. A lazy Sunday, a spur of the moment decision to go swimming, a stupid dive into shallow water… and, well, you know how this story goes. Today marks 51 years of quadriplegia for me, and with every year that goes by, I marvel that God keeps adding chapters to my story. Through the ups and downs of quadriplegia, through breast cancer, and chronic pain, God has continued to remind me of the truth of Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” So, for however many more chapters God adds to my life, I can move forward courageously because I know how the story concludes… spending eternity with Jesus, my glorious Savior!
